Our favorite Lower East Side (or LES) shops reflect the gritty character of this unique New York City neighborhood. Sandwiched between Chinatown, the Bowery and the East Village the area retains much of its original character and storefronts. Traditionally a working-class neighborhood, its home to the Tenement Museum, which is a preserved immigrant home dating to 1863. The past two decades have witnessed a gentrification of the neighborhood, attracting an interesting collection of retail boutiques, galleries and restaurants and there remains plenty of colorful, eclectic and unique shops to visit.
