John Sandoe Books was founded in 1957 and over the decades has expanded to encompass the neighboring eighteenth century shops that, today, houses 30,000 titles most of which are single copies. John Sandoe Books has a loyal fan base, including many notable authors.

The bookstore offers beautiful brown-paper-packaged book subscriptions and bundles, wedding list gifts, and offers library services. There is a John Sandoe Books podcast which since 2019 has been recording talks by authors, interviews, and reading. And there is the Wodehouse Wednesday recorded "lockdown" selected readings from P.G. Wodehouse.
