WHAT WE LOVE
New York City's biggest bookshop and a Greenwich Village institution, Strand Bookstore founded in 1927, boasts 18 miles of books. The family-owned business was started by Ben Bass on New York's Book Row, six city blocks on Fourth Avenue (where was originally also located) and is currently run by his granddaughter, Nancy Bass.
Ben Bass named the store after the London street where avant-garde writers like Thackeray, Dickens and Mill once gathered and interesting book publishers thrived.
The Strand Bookstore carries over 2.5 million used, new, and rare books, covering topics as far-ranging as occult to philosophy to finance, offers in-person events with award-winning and critically acclaimed authors, book launches, subscription services, and library services. Books by the Foot is a unique service creating one-of-a-kind, custom book collections and rentals for interior decorators, set designers, commercial spaces, and personal libraries.
